Eerily Familiar

Doesn't this look and sound eerily familiar?

US agencies (played so convincingly by Harvey Keitel and others) are closing in on the leaders of the terrorists. They have them in the cross-hairs. They phone home by high-tech satellite link for permission to pull the trigger, but can't get those woosie REMFs in the White House to give the OK.

Oh yeah, that was the plot of the onerous ABC/Disney propaganda film Path to 9/11, except that little piece of fiction (written by reight-wing Josef Goebbels wannabe Cyrus Nowrasteh) erroneously tried to saddle Bill Clinton with the blame - and was conveniently scheduled to air just before the November, '06 midterm elections.

Well it didn't work, lots of Republicans got kicked to the curb by the voters, no Democrats lost their seats. Now we find the EXACT OPPOSITE scenario did play out in reality.

Watch.

How Did This Whole War Thing Get Started Again?

Last week, Democratic Representative David Obey of Wisconsin kicked the living shit out of the Washington Post for helping to lead the march to war in Iraq.

Then today come the news that the Pentagon officially shot down the connection between Iraq and al-Qaida.

From AFP:
Interrogations of Saddam Hussein and seized documents confirmed the former Iraqi regime had no links with Al-Qaida, a Pentagon report said Friday, contradicting the US case for the 2003 invasion.

A two-page resume of the report was published in February, but on Friday the Pentagon declassified the whole 120-page document.

Cheney quacked indignantly in response.

From AP:

Vice President Dick Cheney repeated his assertions of al-Qaida links to Saddam Hussein's Iraq on Thursday as the Defense Department released a report citing more evidence that the prewar government did not cooperate with the terrorist group.

Cheney contended that al-Qaida was operating in Iraq before the March 2003 invasion led by U.S. forces and that terrorist Abu Musab al-Zarqawi was leading the Iraqi branch of al-Qaida. Others in al-Qaida planned the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks.

Why does the Pentagon hate America?

The Young Turks immediately kicked Cheney in the chest and screamed, "This is Sparta!"

Bush's response to all this was, "What part of I don't give a fuck what anyone else says don't you people get?" Then he added 12,000 more troops to the surge.

BYU isn't down with the whole thing. Especially Cheney.

The Afghanistan News

Bush Asks NATO for More Troops, Taliban Captures District, Pakistan's Position, John Howard Waffles, Tony Blair Swears, More

Yesterday the story broke that Osama Bin Laden was putting together a command center in Pakistan along the border with Afghanistan...

Afghanistan! Yeah... What ever happened there?

Let's do The Afghanistan News and find out:
  • A helicopter crash killed 8 soldiers early Sunday morning.
  • The Taliban recaptured a district in Zabul province.
  • The UN is pressuring Pakistan to clarify its position on the Taliban after one of their governors likened the Taliban to a liberation force.
  • Afghanistan is considering amnesty for war criminals. Hamid Karzai will veto a measure approving amnesty, but Afghan lawmakers may override the veto.
  • A suicide bomber disguised as a doctor struck a hospital opening, wounding NATO soldiers.
  • A bit of relatively good news--Afghanistan's army is outperforming the Iraqi army.
  • Australia's John Howard continues to waffle on whether to send more troops to fight in Afghanistan. Seems like Howard likes to talk big about fighting terror when he's attacking Barack Obama, but when it comes time to actually fight, well, that's for Americans.
VIDEO: Bush calls on NATO countries to send more troops to Afghanistan. More NATO troops, as opposed to, you know, ending the illegal war in Iraq and sending those troops to the war they should have been allowed to finish off five years ago.
VIDEO: Tony Blair promises to see the fight in Afghanistan through. Of course, he's resigning later this year.
VIDEO: Mosaic--Has the hunt for bin Laden finally begun? They say perhaps. I say no.
