"...Please, Please Forget That We ARE Republicans."
Have you watched any of the RNC at all? Or maybe some of the talking heads on the news shows? I'll tell you the truth, I haven't exactly been following it closely, but I can tell you what the official talking point is - "Country First - Service." (please don't click that link - It'll take you to the official website of the RNC.)
I did watch Joe LIE-berman's keynote address (click for audio and transcript from NPR) and it's obvious what Joe was trying to do.
What matters is certainly not whether we are Democrats or Republicans, but that we are all Americans. The truth is, it shouldn't take a hurricane to bring us together like this.Well, you'll only be fooled if you believe that Lieberman, whose entire career as a putative Democrat has been a false flag operation, is anything other than a partisan corporatist warmongering Republican. For crying out loud, he kissed George Bush on the mouth before one of Dubya's State of the Union addresses! One suspects he's kissed him a lot lower down in private. The frickin' Repukes withdrew their support for their own candidate to back LIE-berman in 2006. He has completely blown his cover.

I'm here to support John McCain because country matters more than party.
[...]
I'm here because John McCain's whole life testifies to a great truth: being a Democrat or a Republican is important. But it is not more important than being an American.
Both presidential candidates this year talk about changing the culture of Washington, about breaking through the partisan gridlock and special interests that are poisoning our politics. But only one of them has actually done it...And that leader is John McCain.

It shouldn't take a natural disaster to teach us that the American people don't care much if you have an "R" or a "D" after your name.
[...]
My Democratic friends know all about John's record of independence and accomplishment. Maybe that's why some of them are spending so much time and so much money trying to convince voters that John McCain is someone else. I'm here, as a Democrat myself, to tell you: Don't be fooled.
LIE-berman's long-term strategy of trying to conceal his deep-down Republican sentiments is now, out of necessity, being embraced by the entire Republican party. If they can't get away from their own branding, they are toast.
Station Agent put up a most excellent post last night -
-about the Republicans' aversion to any media that isn't comfortably compromised .
So far, the fine people of the RNC's Radio Row have failed to provide ANY Republican guests for The Young Turks. They avoid us like the plague. I've had to chase people down and ask them to come on the show myself. In fact, they advise Republicans NOT come on the show, and this all brings up an extremely interesting issue...There's a very simple reason for this. Republican policies have been an unmitigated disaster for the country, and their opinions can't be defended with anything approaching a reasonable argument. I'll expand on a comment I left on that post.
The Young Turks are obviously at the RNC to get the Republican point of view. The host is not going to yell at them, but he isn't going to ask easy questions either. That is precisely what Republicans are afraid of. Why are Republicans so afraid to come on a progressive show and stand their ground? Wouldn't they love the chance to argue their strong opinions and positions on a radio show? Saying you believe something is one thing, but defending your opinions with a reasonable argument is another.
If the Repugnicants continue to narrow the media window through which they talk to America they will surely lose the political battle - BIG-time!In the last eight years 66% of all large corporations and over 70% of all FOREIGN corporations operating in America have paid no taxes. None. That's the Republicans 'putting Country first.' They've funneled $BILLIONS into Halliburton, who pulled up stakes and moved their head offices to Dubai (or was it Bahrain?) to avoid paying taxes.
They know their message has become toxic, appealing to the public about as much as a heaping plate of horseshit laced with rat poison and garnished with broken glass. Did you notice what their main talking point is now, rolled out for the RNC? "We're not Republicans, We're Americans." After 14 years of the most partisan politics America has ever seen (I'm dating from Newt Gingrich's Contract with America) they dare to portray themselves as the non-partisan America First-ers. After eight years of strip-mining the country, so that the middle class are left without jobs, without homes, with nothing but a huge debt.
Only the brain-dead and Kool-aid addicted are going to buy any of that.
The standard practice with outfits like Halliburton, KBR and so forth is to sub-contract out their work to subsidiaries which are owned by the primary contractor. The purpose of this shell game is to 1) further avoid taxes 2)avoid any accountability and 3) add a second billing layer, and another PROFIT MARGIN.
So how, pray tell, is funneling all this money to these organizations putting country first? How in the hell is this squandering of taxpayer dollars on an illegal war in line with a party who endlessly whinge and moan about 'liberal tax-and-spend policies?'
And finally, what kind of Gawd-damned fool would even consider putting these criminals back in office to further harm the country that they have already worked so hard to destroy?
